Busy Bags
...are KEY when traveling! This will serve as entertainment during the transportation part of the journey as well as throughout the trip itself.
A few important rules:
1. Must be brand new things the baby has never seen or played with
2. Don't let the baby see inside
3. Only take one thing out at a time
After a lot of research on good travel toys for busy bags on my PINTEREST PAGE I gathered things that were age appropriate and tetrised them into a drawstring bag. I bought a few things at full price on Amazon but the rest was stuff from the dollar store so if it was lost or broken- no biggie.
Here's the first busy bag I made for when he was 22 months old:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
I bought this clipping airplane toy that has zippers, clips, and lots of fine motor skill practice:
Clip airplane stuffy
Cozy headphones and Ipad with games and downloaded shows (as a last ditch resort):
Note: the headphones he had here were always falling off and causing an issue.. I have since then discovered the above linked Cozy headphones via my MIL and they are amazing and never come off and I never hear the complaint of “my ears hurt!!”
The rest was from the Dollar Tree!
Lastly, don't forget positive rewards:
What goes in the DIAPER BAG?
Travel plate:
Makes it quick and convenient to divvy up food when traveling in fast places. Use it at every meal and you can rinse it out in between; give it a good wash at the end of the day. Put this in the travel bag so you have access to it at the airport for the layovers along with snacks on the plane.
You need
SNACKS (Click here for my page on snacks) for the trip. More than you think you will need. Double/Triple the amount you think you will need. You never know what is going to happen on the layover and need to be prepared for a hangry baby.
Here's one bag:
Depending on where you're going, you might want to pack 2 separate snack bags, one for the way there and another for the way back:
**SIDENOTE: When I traveled internationally I had no idea what I would find snackwsie overseas or what he would like. PLUS there are rules about certain foods and traveling back into the states. So I made 2 bags of snacks, one went at the top of the diaper bag for easy access when in the plane seat and the other went in the suitcase for the trip back.
I also packed a box of snacks to eat while there at the destination only because I didn't know what to expect, especially for a picky toddler:
NOTE: This also goes for milk/formula for the baby. Pack double what you think you will need for the flight and plan to buy the rest while you're at the destination (UNLESS going on a cruise, then PACK it!)
Diapers:
I pack double the amount I think I will need for the transportation part. I always plan to pick up a box of diapers where I'm going for the trip part (unless it's a cruise - take a sleeve of diapers with you in the suitcase then you have souvenir space for the return trip).
*SIDENOTE: Coming back on one trip there was the biggest blowout before we got in line, then again in the gangway as we were getting onto the plane and I had to change him in the airplane bathroom, it happened yet again mid- flight and once we landed also!! .. so, moral of the story: take more diapers than you think you need and 2 changes of clothes for EACH of YOU! (He definitely pooped all over me and he rode on the plane in just a diaper while I had to change my clothes mid flight.. I was known on that flight!- I'll never forget it..)
This was for my international flight:
Pack the following in your suitcase:
Packing cubes are AMAZING! If you haven't experienced these, buy them now! I normally am a heavy packer but after traveling with a kid, my goal is to pack as light as possible while still being prepared. I only want one suitcase so I don't have to haul as much. I can get my whole family of 3 packed for 10 days in one suitcase with the joyous wonder of packing cubes!
Don't forget the following unique items that you might forget in the suitcase:
A few of his fave books from home :
Monitor: If you get 2 hotel rooms, like I have to because Mr. FOMO won't go to sleep with another person in the same room, don't forget the monitor to keep track of what is going on in the other room!
Our Blair Witch hotel moment..
